Laurence Dean "Dusty" RHODES

  • "Our prayers and thoughts go out to you during this..."

Died at his home with his wife of almost 55 years at his side on Sunday, January 13th. Dusty was born in Seattle, WA, raised in Mill Valley, CA and was a graduate of Tamalpais High School. He moved from Marin County to Sonoma County in May of 1975, served four years in the Air Force, and had a successful career as an Optician for several companies including 10 years with Kaiser Permanente. He retired in 1994. He excelled in self taught knowledge of Western, Natural History and Geography (especially California). Dusty was a voracious reader of non-fiction, often reading several books at the same time. His collection of Classical and Jazz music was vast. He loved animals, including horses, over the years, and his precious dogs {currently Razzle and Dazzle Airedales}. He was very much a romantic-announced to a friend that he would marry his wife of almost 55 years within minutes of having met her on a blind date. Valentines Day was his favorite special day of the year. His favorite saying, "Dreams are no substitute for memories". In addition to his wife, Bonnie Lou Rhodes, he is survived by two brothers in law, two sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom reside in the Chicago, IL area. Per his request, no services will be held. Donations may be made to the Marine Mammal Foundation, Sonoma County Humane Society & Canine Companions.
