Passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on March 17, 2014 in her home. She was surrounded by her loving family, while the soft strains of Amazing Grace were played on the cello by her great-granddaughter Stacy Philpott. Vesta was born in Portland, Oregon on August 5, 1919, where she spent her early years helping her parents on their turkey ranch. After graduating High School at age 18, she married her High School sweetheart, Bob Burroway. In 1955 they moved to Santa Rosa, CA where she worked as a psychiatric technician at Sonoma State Hospital before opening their Sunset Rest Homes in the Santa Rosa and Cotati area. After retiring in 1985, they traveled extensively with family and friends enjoying the rewards of their success. Vesta was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church where she was involved in local and foreign mission projects. There were many mission trips deep into Mexico where they helped to build churches and provided needed food and clothing to people in the local towns. One of Vesta's biggest missions was to provide food, clothing and additional support to the local Asian refugee community after the fall of Saigon. There are many young people who remember fondly the help and support they received from Vesta in their formative years, especially two very special girls, Sunboth and Huen, who she raised and became like daughters to her. Bob and Vesta's years of work together on their many missions came to a close in 2007 when her husband of 69 years passed away. Vesta is survived by her two children, JoAnne Hobbs (Gene), Robert Burroway Jr. (Kathy), grandchildren Jeffrey and Michael Philpott, Melinda Haro, Misty Sampson, and Kristy Brewer. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren. Her friends and family are invited to a visitation and service at Daniels Chapel of the Roses on Saturday March 22, 2014. Visitation at 5:00 p.m. Service to begin at 6:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Santa Rosa Seventh-day Adventist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made in Vesta's honor to 3ABN Television, PO Box 220, West Frankfort, IL 62896 or to Maranatha Volunteers, Inc., 990 Reserve Dr., Ste 100, Roseville, CA 95678.
