PHILLIPS, Robert Eugene 'Gene', Sr. Age 91, passed away on March 29, 2014. He was born in La Fayette, Georgia on January 24, 1923, a son of Harvey and Maggie (Atkins) Phillips. Gene served his country in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during WWII including the Marshall Islands, and Okinawa. He also served in Post-Occupation Japan. He retired in 1965 as a Gunnery Sergeant after 23 years of service. Following his retirement, Gene worked as a teaching golf pro for another 35 years. In addition to golf, he was involved in the Fleet Reserve Association, Little League Baseball, and the Boy Scouts. He is survived by three children, Peggy A. Waterbury of Baldwinsville, New York, Robert E. Phillips, Jr. of Santa Rosa, and Larry L. Phillips of Wahiawa, Hawaii. Also survived by two grand daughters, one grandson, three great granddaughters and three great grandsons. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Larry Mae Phillips. Burial and Military Honors will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon at 1:30pm on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Daniels Chapel of the Roses 707-525-3730
