Funeral Notice
1 entry
The Guest Book is expired.

Phyllis moved on April 7, 2014, at age 91, after a twelve year battle with Dementia-Alzheimer's. She is survived by two of her three sons: Martin (Jon) Forbes of Sonoma and Walter Forbes of Los Angeles; grandchild McKenna whom she loved dearly and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Her husband Charles, Sr.and son Charles Jr.(Chuck) preceded her in death. Daughter-in-law Joanie also survives her. Born and raised in San Francisco, Phyllis grew up in the Cow Hollow, Marina District and Glen Park areas of San Francisco. She was a fourth generation San Franciscan who attended St. Bridget's Elementary, Girls High School and Balboa High School. She married Charles Forbes in 1940 upon completing high school and moved to the Mount Davidson Manor area where they lived until moving north to Santa Rosa twenty five years ago. Phyllis was a devout Catholic, coming from Italian and Irish heritage. Immediately after dinner, a rosary was said by the family before leaving the table. Mass was mandatory, not an option. One of her favorite childhood memories was roller skating in the Marina and playing tennis at the Palace of Fine Arts. She was generous in all respects to family, friends and community both emotionally and financially. She loved to cook and bake which only reinforced the sense of warmth and caring she exuded. There was always a concern about her guest having enough to eat, so a package of food often awaited their departure. St. Honre' cake was one of her favorite deserts. She has lived the past twelve years at Monte Verde Rest Home. Thanks to the owners Ray and Peggy Williams. Under the care of Gwen, Phyllis has had many happy moments, including their virtual girl's night out. A private family ceremony will be held. Donations may be made in her name to: Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, P.O. Box 721, Sonoma, CA 95476. Daniels Chapel of the Roses Funeral and Cremation Services 525-3730
