Gary was born in Santa Rosa on Feb. 16, 1962 to Gerald and Shirley Pierce He passed away on April 1 at his residence in Guerneville. He graduated from Montgomery HS. He was preceded in death by his life partner of many years, Gordon Hettrick and his father Gerald Pierce. He is survived by his mother Shirley Pierce (Bill Harrington), his brother Kevin (Raymond), and his sister Diane (David) and beloved pet Rose Westcott. He is also survived by his Aunt Nonnie (Octavia Millard) of Chico, and uncles Gilbert McNeal of Yreka and Frank McNeal of Oroville. Other survivors include his cousins Ralph, Ron and Bonnie Matteoli and Carol Elliott of Santa Rosa, and numerous other relatives from Siskiyou Co. Last but not least, he leaves behind his two dogs, his loyal, loving companions, Angus, who is 20+ years old, and Peanut, a recent addition. They brought joy to his life and are missing him terribly. Gary did his own thing in life, made his own decisions and never asked for advice. Good or bad, he accepted it. He spent many years working with Gordon as caretakers of Mary Morton's properties in Rutherford and Calistoga. They were more than employees; over the years, they became a very close family. He worked as a jeweler's helper and became quite proficient and interested in that trade, and he worked as a dog groomer which he enjoyed because of his love of animals. We will all miss his hearty, distinctive laugh. When you heard that laugh it made you feel everything is okay and his smile was enough to brighten your day. Gary resided in Guerneville the past few years; he had many friends and became a well respected member of the community. He was a big supporter of Food for Thought in Sebastopol and the family requests donations to that organization if anyone wishes. A memorial service will be held on April 26 at 2:00 pm at Daniels Chapel of The Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave, Santa Rosa, Ca. (707)525-3730.
