Our beloved mother passed away in Santa Rosa, CA, on May 9, 2014 at the age of 89. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends and went in peace. In the end, her body was tired, her work was done, and she was ready to be reunited with her late husband Robert, family, and friends - Heaven's gates were open and God was ready to receive our mother. Mary being a typical "Italian" mother fought a heroic battle with her declining health ... never complaining and always saying that we were all doing "too much". She enjoyed the company of family and friends, telling childhood stories and keeping Italian traditions alive. She enjoyed cooking and many of her recipes are now family treasures. She was always in the garden and enjoyed her roses. By her side, wherever she went, was her dog Bella. Family gatherings were a favorite time for her and especially when she was in the kitchen making home-made ravioli, pesto pasta, and Biscotti cookies. Mary is survived by her loving sons Michael (Sandra), Gary (Pamela Knighten), and Mark (Shery); her sister Josephine Ballard; her sister-in-law Barbara Greppi; her grandchildren Nanette Coats, Jennifer Gordon-Stewart, Melissa Gordon, Kayla and Derek and Amanda Gordon; her great-grandchildren Nathan Coats, Courteney and Trevor Stewart; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 61 years, Robert; her brothers John and Michael Greppi; and her sister Anne Goslee. Mary was born and raised in San Francisco by her parents Michele and Katherine Greppi and lived a majority of her life in Northern California. Mary worked at Hamilton Air Force base, Marin County CA, during and after World War II on the flight-line and then she became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and traveled to Italy to see where her father was born and meet her relatives. The trip to Italy was the highlight of her travels. Mary also enjoyed "cruising" twice to Alaska and once to Panama. Those who were fortunate enough to know Mary will miss her practical approaches to life and "mothering" love and compassion. Mary's passing was too early for those that loved her and she will be missed and remembered in our hearts and thoughts, forever. Mom, we love you.
