Died in Santa Rosa, California on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Beloved husband of Lois Whiting for 67 years; loving father of Mary Pat McCann and her husband Marv, Chris Whiting and his wife Tami, Mike Whiting and his wife Sharon, Laurie Whiting-Haase, and Bill Whiting and his wife Cheryl; adored grandfather of Brian McCann and wife Lisa, Katy Paterson and husband Brad, Livia Whiting, Emily Whiting and husband Fru, Georgia Whiting, Brenna Whiting, Kelly, William, Haru, and Luca Mirai Whiting; and also survived by great grandson Jaxon Paterson. A native of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, he was 90 years of age. A graduate of Georgetown University in 1947 as a physician. He served in the U S Air Force as a surgeon with the rank of Captain. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base taking care of returning wounded from Korea from 1951-1954. He was one of the first surgeons in private practice in Santa Rosa. He practiced in Santa Rosa from 1954 until 1967 when he became Medical Director for State Compensation Ins. Fund, and retired in 1987. He was an avid Oakland A's fan. He was a member of St. Eugene's Cathedral, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and Medical Friends of Wine. He traveled around the world and visited his favorite country, Ireland, four times. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Madelyne Chapel of Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 2930 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa, with USAF Military Honors.
