Our dearly loved Papa passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2014. He lived a wonderful 99 years of life. He was our beloved Dad, our mom's highly adored husband of 73 years, our children's exceptional grandfather. He leaves us so grateful we were his. He was the center of our family, our advisor, our life coach, our CEO, our friend and our rock. We loved his sharp mind, great humor and his huge heart. We knew that we were always #1 because he told us. He hugged us. He shaped us into the family who will always remember that family is the most important thing. When we were around him, we felt safe. Our world was a much better place because he was in it. Although Sidney was born in Minnesota, he was raised in San Francisco where he attended Lowell High School and UC Berkeley. In 1940 he met and married the love of his life, Doris. The couple moved to San Carlos, CA to raise their family while Sid worked in San Francisco as a credit manager for a furniture company. Those were some of the happiest years of his life, as he gardened in his huge backyard, had many close neighbors, hosted large family gatherings, and watched his kids grow. In his mid-fifties, he bought and owned a furniture store in Salinas. Together with his wife, Doris, as the interior decorator/buyer, the couple built a new and successful life. During this time they made many new friends, volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years and traveled all over the world to Europe, the Caribbean, Israel, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and the U.S. Sidney leaves behind two children, Daughter Donna Taffel (Lee Taffel) of Santa Rosa and son Mark Pearlman (Lynn Pearlman) of El Dorado Hills, two grandchildren, Kate Taffel of San Francisco and Dan Taffel of Santa Rosa and two dear nephews Bob Binder and Robert Pickard of San Francisco. Per the request of the family, no services will be held. We wish to thank Sutter Hospice and The Lodge at Paulin Creek for the most wonderful care our father received.
