Carol A. Martin passed away suddenly at her home on August 16, 2012. Carol was known to many as the Voice of the Council on Aging, the compassionate, helpful voice on the other end of the line when seniors or their families called looking for help. Carol, the youngest of six children, grew up on a farm in rural Minnesota. A graduate of the University of Minnesota in Duluth, she moved to Monterey in her thirties and worked in the Naval Postgraduate School library. In 1979 she moved to Sonoma County and began working for the Council on Aging as the Information and Referral Specialist. Her caring for others, her sense of humor, her curiosity, her willingness to listen and her research skills made her the Sonoma County expert on services for seniors. Carol is survived by her local extended family of her cousin Jeanne, David and Jeff Kent, and Pat, Ray, Catie and Sami Stone, as well as her siblings in the midwest, Lucille Lundgren, Jean Lyon and Rev. Robert Martin, plus generations of nieces and nephews. She has been the beloved sister, aunt and cousin to them all. Carol will be sorely missed by her family, her co-workers and the seniors who relied on her knowledge and her caring responses to their needs. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Council on Aging, 30 Kawana Springs Rd., Santa Rosa 95404. Donations for senior services in Carol's memory may be made to Council on Aging.
