The Guest Book is expired.

Chris departed this life on October 13, 2012. She left in peace, in her home, in the company of her husband, her son Scott and her cats. Born January 8, 1948 in San Bernardino, California, she was the daughter of Harvey and Helen Appleton. Chris was a 1966 graduate of Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California. She was 64.

Chris had a remarkable 40-year career in government. Beginning as a Budget Analyst for San Bernardino County California, she advanced to Principal Staff Analyst for Orange County California, then to Director of the California Department of Aging. Later, she served as Chief Administrative Officer of Humboldt County, California during the 1990s earthquakes. Still later, she served as Director of the Sonoma County, California Department of Permit and Resource Management (PRMD). Her last position was Presidential appointee as Associate Director of Management for the Peace Corps in Washington DC.

Former Peace Corps Director Gaddi Vasquez commented: "Chris was a great public servant who dedicated most of her adult life to service at the county, state and federal levels of government. She was a great contributor to the work at Peace Corps and will be missed by all of us who knew her and were fortunate to work with her".

Pete Parkinson, Director of Sonoma County PRMD said: "Chris came to PRMD as the interim Director in 1997 and ended up staying for five years. She arrived at a very turbulent time when the department was still relatively in its infancy. Chris helped bring the department together and began a time of healing and teamwork."

Alice Gonzales, former member of the UC Board of Regents, said: "It is rare that you meet someone who with that first smile, the first meeting of your eyes, becomes your friend. Someone who knows nothing about you one day and knows all your thoughts the next. Someone who asks for nothing in return for your friendship but friendship itself. Someone who makes it just as easy to share sadness or joy. I found that rare person in Chris. She will always hold a special place in my heart."

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors adjourned in memory of Chris Arnold on October 16, 2012.

Chris is survived by two children: Lori Little (grandchildren Tyler and Noah) of California, and Scott Arnold (grandchildren Kaila and Jake) of Texas. She is also survived by her mother, Helen, sister Diane Silva and husband Ken of California, and nephews Mick, Dan and Jon Silva of Oregon and Hong Kong. Finally, she is survived by her devoted husband, Richard C. Rogers of Eugene, Oregon, and three rescued cats: Chloe, Jerry and Charlie.

Richard is forever in love with Chris.

Christine Arnold was known for service to country, remembering everyone's birthday, her crocheting and her baking skills. She was a wise and talented woman, who helped many through both actions and example. The sense of loss for her family and friends is inexpressible.

Services will be held at a later time.
