J. Carson Bowler, 81, of Laguna Woods, Ca. died on February 4, 2013. Carson graduated from the University of Oregon in 1955 with a degree in Architecture. He began his architectural career in San Francisco in the office of Clarence Mayhew and then partnered with Robert Chan to form Bowler and Chan. Carson and his wife Patti moved to Bodega Bay in 1964. He designed and built his home-office on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and started his solo architectural practice. In 1969 he partnered with John Cook to form Bowler and Cook Architects. They worked together until John Cook's death in 1999. His prolific work over a 50-year career included both residential and commercial projects throughout Sonoma and Marin Counties, and other parts of the state. He designed numerous houses at The Sea Ranch and Bodega Harbour (including the Restaurant-Clubhouse). He was on The Sea Ranch Design Review Board for over 20 years. His designs were featured in House Beautiful several times. He married Patti Wright in 1953, and was with her until her death in 1992. He married Carol Olds in 1994. Carson retired in 2005 and Carol and he moved to Laguna Woods, Ca. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Laguna Woods, brother Doug Bowler (Barbara) and sister Marilyn Johnson (Richard) of Laguna Beach; step-children Jeffery Olds (Shawn) and Michelle Kovarik (Chris); grandchildren Rachel, Ethan, and Adam; numerous nieces and nephews. And he will be missed by many friends and colleagues in Northern California. Carson's ashes shall be scattered at sea in Southern California. There will be a memorial service in Northern California this spring, date to be announced.
