Cliff Newell lived in Healdsburg most of his life. He was born in Alameda, the eldest child of Grady and Marie Newell. Cliff attended St. John's Catholic School and Healdsburg High (Class of '67). After retiring, Cliff spent his last few years in Windsor tinkering with his house and hobbies. Cliff started out as an electrician. Later, during his long career at Midwest Towers, he headed a crew specializing in the building and repair of cooling towers used at electric generating facilities throughout the U.S. Cliff was an avid outdoorsman, with a special love of fishing that managed to find its way into most every conversation. As Cliff's health was failing and he prepared for the inevitable, he lightened our hearts with a reference from another of his favorites: TV westerns. He got into the habit of greeting everyone with a chorus of "Happy trails to you, until we meet again...". When asked why, he'd reply: "I'll be hitting the trail pretty soon." Cliff leaves behind three adult children: Keith, Shane and Deambra, along with other family and many friends. He died peacefully in his mother's bed at his home in Windsor. He was 63. A memorial BBQ will be held to honor Cliff's life. It will be held at the Warms Springs Dam picnic area, group site no. 2, on April 6, 2013 - Cliff's birthday. We'll start serving at 1:00 p.m., so to family and friends, come hungry and prepared to share your stories. For further information, contact Dan Camacho, 707 481 8278.
