Passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2013 after a brief illness. He was 82. Don was born on September 14, 1930, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Fortunato and Eva (Baughmann) Fee. The youngest of five children, he graduated from North Uniontown High School in 1947 and joined the United States Navy. Don served as radioman on the USS Curtiss in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge in 1951, he eventually settled in San Francisco, where he met his wife of 53 years, Judith. Don moved his young family to Sonoma in 1969, and in 1972 started his Farmers Insurance Agency. Don was a beloved fixture on the Plaza for nearly 30 years. He was always there to help his clients, friends, and neighbors in their times of need, responding to emergencies late into the night or on the weekends. After Don retired from the insurance business, he went to work delivering bread and pastries for Basque Boulangerie, all over Sonoma County. Those who were blessed to have known Don, remember him as a gentle, quiet, humble, and unassuming man. He enjoyed his family, reading about American history, watching old classic movies, and watching his favorite football and baseball teams, the Steelers and the Pirates. In addition to his wife Judith, Don is also survived by his children, Carl Russo (Vanessa Picton) of San Francisco, Donald Patrick Fee of San Jose, and Susanna (Joseph) Pheffer of Windsor. He also leaves behind his brother, Gerald Fee and his wife Eleanor of Sanford, FL, and his sister Angie Ertl of Northampton, PA. Don is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Jonathon, and Avi, and numerous nieces and nephews. At Don's request, there will be no services. Donations in his memory can be made to The Nature Conservancy (nature.org) or Hospice by the Bay (hospicebythebay.org)
