Age 90, passed away at his home in Healdsburg on July 28, 2013. He was born in Belgrade, Nebraska on November 10, 1922, a son of Jones and Elsie (McCormick) Caudle. Merle started as a farm boy in the Great Depression. He worked for AT&T and Lockheed, and served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On May 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Joanne Roberto in Burbank, CA. Merle played semi-pro baseball while in Southern California. Later, he owned a logging company and worked as a General Building Contractor. Merle was very proud of his Irish heritage. He is survived by a son, Tim Caudle; two daughters, Linda (Jim) Higby, and Maryann (Michael) Zolotoff; grandchildren, Paul Higby, Ann Judd, Carrie Caudle Yu, Kelly Zolotoff, Joe Caudle, and Tanya Zolotoff; great grandchildren, Wyatt Judd, Jake Higby, Sawyer Judd, Aidan Zolotoff, Luna Yu, and Quinn Zolotoff; and by a brother, Frank Caudle. Merle's wife Joanne preceded him in death in 2000. A rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31st at St. John's Catholic Church, 208 Matheson St., Healdsburg. A mass will be said at St. John's at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013. Burial and military honors will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Healdsburg following the funeral mass.
