Passed away Sept. 6, 2013, two days short of his 91st birthday. Born Sept. 8, 1922 to John Jacob Astor Rector and Gladys Stedman in Freewater, Ore.. After graduating from high school, Bob attended the University of Washington in Seattle. As World War II broke out he took a job with Boeing Aircraft and was eventually sent to Hawaii as an aircraft maintenance instructor. After the attack on Pearl Harbor Bob joined the Marine Corps., serving his country in the South Pacific and receiving a purple heart. On April 2, 1944 he married Pauline Petersen. After his discharge from the service in 1946 he attended Santa Rosa Junior College and went on to graduate from the University of California at Berkley as an Optometrist. The Rectors moved to Sebastopol where Bob practiced Optometry until moving his practice to Sacramento, Ca. in 1967. Bob and Pauline were blessed with 67 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2011. He was the loving father of Rodney Rector and Judi Leaird (Jim), grandfather to Noah Rector, Katelyn Leaird and Kelsey Leaird and great grandfather to River Rector. After retiring, Bob enjoyed playing golf with friends and traveling the world with Pauline, going to China, Russia, England, Germany, Fiji and of course many annual winter trips to Baha California and Palm Springs.
