Passed away Oct. 3, 2013 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sterling CO April 14, 1928 and raised in Grand Island, NB and San Francisco. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Sandy and his "One claim to fame" twin daughters Jeanette Berger and Janice Brower. Grand children Scott (Maiko), Lindsey and Ali Brower, Scott and Remy Berger, Shana Van Cleave, Amy Gold, and five great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his father C.C. (Bud) Kaufman, mother Claudia Jones and brothers Gerald and Ora Kaufman. Jim joined the Navy in 1946 for a two year hitch then started his nine year career in the sheet metal trade in San Francisco, but he always said the smartest thing he ever did was when he joined the California Highway Patrol in 1959. He served for over 24 years as a Traffic Officer in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Modesto transferring to Santa Rosa in 1967 and retiring in 1983. he then went on to work for a few years for the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office as an investigator in Family Support. He enjoyed his retirement playing his favorite game Golf. He was a long time annual member at Bennett Valley Golf Course and loved every minute of it. He made some life long friends on the Patrol, D.A.'s office and at the golf course. He was a rabid long time fan of the 49'rs and Giants. Jim had a quick sense of humor, never met a stranger and enjoyed telling a good joke or story.
