Dr. Creed WOOD M.D. obituary

Creed WOOD Obituary

Passed away on February 3rd, 2014 at the age of 71. Creed had an enigmatic personality that lit up a room with his wonderful sense of humor, wit, kind heart, and sincere caring for people. He loved a good joke and always made a point of having a fresh one on hand for his weekly golfing ritual with good friends. Creed was an avid historian with a particular fondness for the Civil War era. His ability to recall names, dates, and detailed events was astounding. Creed was a beloved and respected member of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Petaluma. He was a regular volunteer and involved in a number of groups including the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Rotary Club of Santa Rosa. Traveling was a great passion of his and throughout his life he visited far reaches of the world with family or attending Rotary International Conventions. Creed loved watching his grandchildren play sports and taking them to A's and Giants games. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, as well as attending spring training in Arizona. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to Creed and Marjorie Wood on August 2, 1942. Creed was raised in Pomona, California, where he graduated from Ganesha High School in 1960 and from Pomona College in 1964. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine in 1968 and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at U.C. San Francisco in 1975. Creed proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps and later for the U.S Air Force National Reserves. For over 33 years, Dr. Wood cared for thousands of patients in Seattle, Petaluma and San Rafael. Creed was predeceased by his son Christopher. He is survived by his son Jonathan of Sacramento, his daughter Catherine of Los Angeles, his three grandchildren Kathryn, David, and Brielle Wood, his daughter-in-law Kelly Wood Jenkins, his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Elene Wood of Laguna Niguel, his nephews Taylor and Sean Wood, and by his former wife and mother of his children Andrée Langlois of Petaluma. A memorial mass will be celebrated in his memory on Friday, February 21st at 11 a.m. , at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 35 Liberty Street in Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Christopher Wood Memorial Scholarship fund established by Creed in memory of his son. www.santarosarotary.com/foundation/christopher-wood-scholarship-fund/. As a college classmate (Pomona) and fraternity brother (Sigma Tau) of Creed, I offer most sincere sympathies to his family. Our class will celebrate its 50th reunion in May, and we will miss him greatly. The news has just reached the class, and the outpouring of sadness shows just how much he was valued. The class Look Book prepared for the reunion has the bio and photos that he submitted, and we will acknowledge him at a memorial service for our lost classmates on May 4. A wonderful man and friend.

My deepest Sympathy to the family and friends of a wonderful and very loved man

Creed made the world a better place. His compassion and caring heart made you feel special when you were in his presence. I have known Creed Since Junior High School and am part of the might "Giants" Ganesha High School Class of 1960. To Creed's son and daughter and grandchildren, you must know that Creed was an amazing person. He was loved by all his classmates, and he was one of the smartest of all our classmates and yet he was well rounded in sports and had a sense of humor that make us all laugh. He was a bright and shining star in our class and although he is no longer on earth, I am sure Heaven is rejoicing. He would not want you to grieve but to celebrate the life he led while he was alive. On behalf of Connie Thomson West and Pat Hazleton McKinney. I send prayers of peace and strength to all of those in his family and close friends who are grieving the loss of our dear classmate. Linda Day Baker

I pray you have peace knowing how loved he was by all of us he touched with his brilliance and crazy sense of humor. Gone but never forgotten.

I would like to express my sympathy to Creeds family and friends. It came as a great shock and sadness when I learned of Creed's passing.

I became his next door neighbor 3 years ago when I moved into my grandmother's condo after having to move her to Vintage Sonoma Memory Care. Over these last 3 years I have enjoyed the many conversations I had with Creed. He made me feel accepted and just knowing he was next door I felt less alone here in Sonoma. I appreciated his support and encouragement during our conversations when I confessed how hard it was for me to see the changes, both mentally and physically, to my grandma due to the Dementia. I also appreciated that he would go to visit my grandma at Vintage.

I loved hearing about his many trips upon his return and marveled at his many comings and goings due to his many interests. I was envious of the close bond he had with his sweet dog Ginger. I will miss how she used to come to my door daily as if to say hello and watch my cat run to the screen door when she did. (He wanted to say hello to her too.) I was amazed at his determination last summer when he would swim laps daily and how he told me about walking about 2 miles a day for a healthier lifestyle with the result of an impressive weight loss. (I felt he put my 54 year old self to shame since that is what I should be doing too.)

I feel I have lost a neighbor and a friend. He was a great man and I will miss him~

I met Creed in junior high, the first intellectual I met. I remember his wicked-funny sense of humor, right word in the exact right moment that made such moments stand out in memory. He was a bright light in the class of 60, Ganesha High. We learned from Creed what it meant to use our minds in ways we hadn't considered, speaking for myself.

I had the honor of knowing Creed as a fellow Rotarian and dear friend of a friend. On our travels to Greece and Thailand, I had the chance to get to know him. He was a sensitive and intelligent person, with a gentle nature and disposition. So sorry to learn of his
passing.

Creed and Ginger were a constant in our little community here on Curtin Ln. Three times a day our little Skipper would just squeal with delight to get out and run with Ginger as Creed would throw the ball for them. You will both be missed so much. Our hearts are heavy and our peaceful little spot in here Sonoma will never be the same.

I was saddened to hear of Creed's demise. He certainly will be missed. His easy going demeanor was a signature of the Wood family; His accomplishments many. I had the pleasure of his company for several hours over the Christmas holiday and was both entertained and inspired by his graphic descriptions of his medical cases. I know now that I was in the presence of both a good guy and good doctor. You don't always get both.

The Ganesha High School Class of 1960 mourns the loss of our beloved class mate Creed Wood. He was a bright light in the class and voted "Boy Most Likely to Succeed" and that he did. He made a difference in the lives of many of his patients, his family, and friends. We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace. Our condolences to his family.
