DAILY, CAPT. JOHN IGNATIUS SR. 96 - of Northfield, departed this world on Saturday, June 15th 2013. Born in Philadelphia on November 30, 1916, he grew up in Ventnor. John attended Holy Spirit Grammar and High Schools, was a Ventnor lifeguard and was one of the infamous Daily Brothers who played ice hockey in the mid 1930's. He later went on to play for the AC Seagulls prior to joining the Navy and serving in Pearl Harbor. After returning from the war, he opened his own automotive shop in the Inlet and later received his Associate degree from Rutgers University and began teaching auto mechanics at the Atlantic City Vo-Tech School. He was an avid sailor and loved captaining boats between NJ and FL. He also was an accomplished skier gracing the slopes of Pico and Sugarbush, VT well into his eighties. He is predeceased by his loving wife Alice "Kiki" Daily, and grandson Vincent Valore. John was the last remaining sibling of eight of the Ignatius (Louise) Daily family who grew up on N. Harvard Ave. in Ventnor. John is survived by his children Beverly Valore, John "Jid" (Denise) Daily, Christina Kozmor, Carlton Ann Daily and Virginia (Robert) Santaniello, also many grand and great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Our Lady of Sorrows, Wabash Ave, Linwood, NJ on Monday July 8, 2013. Calling hours begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home.
