NARDO, CARMELITA VIOLETTA "MILLIE" (Nee GIOVINAZZO) 87 - of Margate, died peacefully in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center on June 19, 2013, surrounded by her family and friends. Carmelita was born in New York on July 20, 1925 to her Hollywood dress designer father, Charles Giovinazzo and homemaker mother, Mary Elizabeth (nee Geraci). She was a child protegee on the piano and sang for Deanna Derbin, a famous star back in the 1920's. Millie had received a scholarship from Julliard School of Music, so that her life could have taken a different turn. However, she chose to live a normal life, going to school and marrying and having her beloved family, who, by the way, got to hear their mother play the piano so beautifully, all the way up to the end of her life. Her family moved to Vineland in the 1940's and then to Atlantic City where her father opened the original Delaware Sub Shop, on Delaware Avenue. Carmelita, affectionately nicknamed ("Millie"), met her husband, John Nardo, while he was playing basketball in St. Michael's School Gym. John eventually took over the Delaware Sub Shop with Millie as Vice President and their two sons and daughter helping to run the business. John and Millie were married 53 years until his death in 1999, and had lived in Margate all of their married life. Millie loved to cook! She cooked the best Italian food ever! Her meatballs are still a mystery of ingredients. She also loved to entertain in her home, throwing lavish parties and was President of the "Felines Club", a charity fund-raising organization, back in the 1960's. Millie was not only a wonderful Mother and Grandmother to her own family, but raised children in her home who were just friends, who would come to visit on weekends and stay for many years, namely, her loving Sonia Swanetz and Joseph Chuck, who both predeceased her. Her pride and joy were her two sons and her beloved daughter Rosemarie, who was by her side constantly while she ended her life's journey these past five months. But in the end, her heart belonged to her great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Carole Roblin, whom she watched grow up for three years, using skype on her computer. Millie is predeceased by her loving husband John Nardo and her brothers Joseph and Marcello. She is survived by her sons; Charles and Edward , her daughter Rosemarie, her loving sister Anita (John) Sharra and their daughter Barbara Sharra and sons Joseph Sharra (Rebecca) and John Sharra and his children and; her grandsons; John (Kim) Nardo and Joseph Nardo and granddaughter Tracy Nardo Roblin (Michael). She will be sorely missed by her daughters-in-law, Patty Basile Nardo and Carole Nardo and so many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Carmelita "Millie" Nardo 12:00 noon Monday, June 24, 2013, at Holy Trinity Parish, Blessed Sacrament Church, Jerome and Ventnor Avenues, Margate. Relatives and friends may call from 11:00am at the Church. The Rite of Committal will be offered at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, following Mass. Arrangements by the Gormley Funeral Home LLC, Atlantic City.
