GENEVA EVANS-MINGO Obituary

EVANS-MINGO, GENEVA CORDELIA 72 - of Pleasantville, departed this life peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 5, 2010. She was born August 31, 1938 to Walter and Geneva Evans (both predeceased) in Atlantic City. She was a loving mother with a kind, nurturing and charitable heart. She was very thoughtful and intuitive, which earned her the nickname of "Nicodemus" (Nick). She could either peek your interest or scare you with the mystery of her thoughts and dreams. She had a somewhat warped sense of humor that could always get a hardy laugh out of you. She loved birds, animals, plants and flowers. She loved the scent of gardenias and loved listening to Marvin Gaye and Billy Holiday. She was an excellent cook who loved making healthy meals and baking tasty pies and cakes. All the neighborhood kids loved to feast on Momma Mingo's food delights. She loved writing and was an avid collector of antiques. Whether it be furniture or fashion, she had a good eye for spotting treasure from junk. She could do interior design in a flash. Geneva attended Atlantic City public schools and graduated from Atlantic City High School with the class of 1958. She married Rodger A. Mingo that year and that marriage ended in 1967. Their union produced four children: Geneva, Andre', Rodger (predeceased) and Nina. Geneva later returned to school to further her education and attended Atlantic Community College from where she graduated with an Associates in Science degree in Nursing in March of 1980. She worked for the Atlantic City Medical Center and several of the area's nursing homes as a Registered Nurse. Her family: children, Geneva D. Mingo-Hargis (Byron), Andre' M. Mingo-Johnson (Robert), and Nina C. Mingo; grandchildren, Byron and Derrick Hargis; great-granddaughter, Anyiah; sister, Corrine "Sweetness" Evans-Jeril; brother, Myers "Sonny" Evans (Ada); and a host of other family and friends are left with many fond memories. In addition to her son and parents, Geneva is also predeceased by: three sisters and two brothers. She's Home in the peaceful bosom of the Father. Although gone from our sight, she will surely be missed, but never forgotten. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday, November 11, 2010, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10 AM. Interment to follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.
