MARJORY KUNIK Obituary

KUNIK, MARJORY JUNE (nee McCHESNEY) - of Margate passed quietly on September 23rd, 2011, while surrounded by family members, after a month-long battle in the hospital. Born in Timmins, Ontario Canada on June 10 1927, Marjory is best remembered for her career in the famed Ice Capades from age 17 until meeting her husband, John, marrying in 1948 and settling in Margate. Those who knew Marjory would agree she was a true beauty, both inside and out. She was always upbeat, lighthearted with never a bad word to say about anyone. Marjory loved to laugh, had an optimistic perspective on life, and a tremendous will to fight when required, as witnessed during her month-long bout in the hospital. Wife of the late John Kunik, and mother of the late Debbie Kunik she is survived by two sons, John and Maitland; three daughters, Donna, Catherine, and Kelly; a sister Jean Denny; and a host of nieces and nephews. Marjory was incredibly proud of her ten grandchildren: Scott, Brendan, Cristin, Maddie, Max, Reid, Hannah,Tess, Anton and Olivia, and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Melania. Marjory's presence made the world a better place and she will be greatly missed. Celebration of her life will take place 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 28, at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Road, Linwood, NJ, where friends are invited to call beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial, Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, NJ. Kelly (as well as John, Maitland, Donna, and Catherine): I am so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. I will always think of the Ice Capades and think of her! Her smile (in all the photos I have seen of her) was radiant and indeed, there is a new star in the heavens shining down on earth now. May the wonderful memories of your life with her fill your hearts with joy now and in the future! With sincere condolences.

Dear Kelly,Cathy,Maitland,Donna,and John,

What a lovely lady your mom was! She was so excited everytime I called and always so upbeat and happy to hear from me.

She and your dad were wonderful to me as I was growing up when I'd spend two weeks at your home on Haverford every summer and Debbie would then spend two weeks at my home on Long Island. Again they were there for me when your Aunt Mary (my mom) passed away in '98.

I just loved her so much and will remember her fun spirit and kind heart. You're so lucky to have been able to call her "mother". I love you all.

To the Kunik Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She came to St. James Church the day of my mother's (Mary Gilboyne) funeral in Dec. 2006. Even though I hadn't seen her in 30+ years, I knew her right away when I saw her smile. She had such a warm personality that filled every room. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

To the Kunik Family,
I will miss your Mom's cherry hello, how she always asked about my family and her constant invitation to visit. I first met her as Debbie's Mom and I thought she was so beautiful and kind. Years later I worked at Longport Inn and your Mom and Dad came in a few times a week I enjoyed our talks about earlier days. Now we are neighbors I will miss seeing her beautiful smile and hearing about her amazing family that she was so proud of. God bless you I will keep you all in my prayers.

To the Kunik family. What a pleasure it has been these past years to be a next door neighbor to Marge. Just the wave and warm smile from the front porch was a memorable event. I volunteered to hang a few shutters for Marge with Doc and before I knew it I was sitting in the kitchen being forced to consume cold beers. Meg and I send our prayers.

To Kelly and Family,

I was never lucky enough to actually meet Majory Kunik. However, from time to time I would get a glimpse of what an inspiring, strong, and remarkable woman she was through Kelly's words. Although she will be missed by all who loved her, she will continue to live on through you, her Family.

Dear Cathy,
I am so sorry to hear about the death of your Mom.
I did not have the opportunity to know your Mom personally. Bless her heart; I know she was a special person, because you are so special.
You shared many stories about Mom. My favorite happened over Thanksgiving right after Cristin was born. Your Mom knew how many roles that you were juggling as a wife, new mom, banker, homeowner, sister and friend. Your Mom wanted to know “How were you doing, really?” You said “Well Mom I wear a lot of hats.” To which Mom replied, “Well dear, I hear hats are ‘in’ this year!”
You, Clark, Cristin, Anton and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Much love,
Margie

Dear Donna, Kathy, Kelly , John and Maitland,

Your mother was a super gal and I remember vividly the good time we had at your parents' wedding up in Timmons. Your grandmother was with us as well.

Betty and I always enjoyed her visit to Florida and going out to dinner with her there.

Marge was such a good person, along with my brother John and your sister, Debbie. I am positive that because of their good-heartedness, they are all 3 up in heaven. I'm sure she wants all of you to be helpful to each other. She'll be in my prayers often.

With love and prayers,
Uncle Bob

Dear Kelly and Kathy,
I am so sad to hear about your mom. I will miss her. We had such fun on our trips to the casino and it always made me happy to look across the street and see her sitting on the porch or working in her garden. She had such a kind and loving spirit.
