MARY KAY HOUGHTON

HOUGHTON, MARY KAY 67 - most recently of Jacksonville, FL, by way of Fanwood and Cape May Courthouse - passed away on January 4, 2013. Mother of two children; Kelly (Faccone) Houghton of Charlotte, NC and Scott Houghton of Egg Harbor Twp, she was also grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren. An avid reader, Mary Kay also loved animals (Jameson the cat will miss her greatly) and rock and roll (although rock and roll only came to her in her 30's- better late than never...). Mary Kay was born in Clearwater, FL and grew up in various parts of the country. She called New Jersey home for a good part of her life, and loved living at the Jersey shore. Not long after attending her first Springsteen concert when she was 36, she was often seen (and heard) driving her Mustang convertible with the radio at full blast. At the time of her retirement, surrounding herself with retirees in Florida seemed the natural way to ensure she could continue to enjoy loud music while not disturbing the neighbors. Things sure will be a little bit quieter in Florida now that she is gone.... Mary Kay spent her personal and professional life working for and doing what is right- and always put the needs of others before hers. While raising her kids, she worked several jobs at a time to make sure they had a good home and education, never complaining- and glad to be able to provide for them as a single parent. Everyone who knew her knows that she was a special person and an instant friend- who left them in a better place than before they met. Mary Kay will be missed by all who knew her. And those who knew her would also know that she wanted nothing more than for everyone to remember the good things... In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Humane Society.
