PROTANO, VINCENT ROBERT 86 - passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family on May 6, 2012. He had a full and rewarding life and he leaves behind a legacy of family, love, and wisdom. Born September 22, 1925 he is the son of the late Guiseppe and Rosa Protano. Vince attended the Manhattan High of Aviation Trades. It was during high school that he met the love of his life, Vera. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during World War II as a radio mechanic stationed at Tyndall Field, Florida. After the war Vince enrolled in the Pratt Institute of Mechanical Engineering and began his career as a draftsman and tool maker designing and making tools. His talent and skills with people, drive, and passion for design and machinery were quickly recognized and through out his career he held a variety of senior level positions in engineering and manufacturing as well as owning his own machine shop and founding Italpresse, North America. Vince's greatest joy was his wife and family and he was most happy when he was surrounded by them. He loved the outdoors and he was an accomplished marksman who enjoyed shooting, hunting, and fishing. Later in life he turned to wood working and he could always be found in his shop making something to give to his kids or fixing something around the house. There was nothing he could not fix, do, or build. He would always find a way and figure it out.
