MARK TIETJEN Obituary

TIETJEN, MARK R. 67 - of Ocean City, passed away on May 21, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Teaneck, he was a graduate of Teaneck High School and Moravian College. A Vietnam veteran, he served a tour of duty as an Army medic in 1968â€"69 where he was awarded two Bronze stars and the Silver Star. He was employed by Peter Lumber Company in management and sales for the past 37 years. He was a life member of the American Veterans Post 911, the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2189, the Vietnam Veterans of America 228 and American Legion Post 352. The son of the late Diedrich and Emilia Tietjen, he was predeceased by his wife, Candi Stone Tietjen and is survived by one sister Connie (Don) Rutsch of Sparta, NJ, his niece Lynne (Ciro) Rockstroh and nephew Ted (Angelique) Rutsch along with grand nephews Zachary Rutsch and Maxx Bero. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 1 to 5 PM at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2189, 500 Bethel Rd., Somers Point, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 2189, 500 Bethel Rd., Somers Point, NJ. 08244. I knew Mark well and wrote an article on him in the vets newsletter, I will now write another. He was loath to claim his hero status from Vietnam, to the point of even denying his Purple Heart. But I know the truth and will make it known. I will meet you there, Mark....
