GRIFFIN, RAYMOND SR. 89 - of Ocean City was born November 10, 1923. He moved to Pleasantville in 1997. Passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, NJ with his daughter Ruth and granddaughter Rasheria by his side. Raymond was born in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late Reverend Samuel Griffin and the late Charlotte Rowell-Griffin where he attended high school. Raymond came to Ocean City, NJ in 1942. Raymond served in the United States Navy as a Stewart's mate first class in 1943. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 12, 1945. Shortly thereafter Raymond met his loving Wife Christine Griffin of 54 years. Raymond was employed by the Board of Education at the Ocean City High School for 25 years. During that time he was also employed by Bob's Grill in Ocean City for 73 years when he retired from there in 2012. He joined St. James A.M.E. Church on March 25, 1978 where he was a trustee for many years. Raymond was also a member of the elks, Ocean City chapter and the American Legion for many years. Raymond was predeceased by his wife Christine Griffin of 54 years, his daughter Clementine Griffin, brothers, William Griffin Sr., Gilbert Griffin, Samuel Griffin, a sister Rosalie Griffin-Scott and a host of nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Griffin-Walker of Wildwood Crest, a son, Raymond Griffin Sr. of Egg Harbor Township and a son in law, Stanford Walker III of Wildwood Crest, NJ. Raymond will be missed greatly by his family and friends. His funeral service will be offered Thursday morning at eleven o'clock from St. James A.M.E. Church, 7th street at Haven Avenue where friends may call from Ten o'clock until time of service. Burial will follow in the Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ.
