Ilse Erna Martha Baker June 8, 1924-Oct 9, 2012 Ilse passed away on Tuesday afternoon surrounded by family. She is survived by her three children, Kathe Moran (Michael), Grant (Tuan Anh), and Russell, her beloved Grandsons Kit and Connor, sisters-in-law Dolores and Lynda, brother-in-law Victor, and many nieces and nephews. Ilse was predeceased by her husband Patrick in 2010, her sister Kathe (1987) and brother Heinz (2001). Ilse was born in Bossen, West Prussia (Germany) on June 8, 1924. She immigrated to Canada with her parents Otto and Martha Marohn and siblings in 1927 aboard the Empress of France. Landing in Quebec City, they traveled by train to Waldersee, Manitoba where they settled and established the family farm. Very much her father's daughter, Ilse loved the farm and often regaled her children with tales of the active role she played in its workings. An adventurer (for her time) Ilse moved to Winnipeg as a young woman to attend business school and subsequently lived and worked in Calgary, Banff and Edmonton. During these years her passion (which she shared with her cousin Trudy) was travel. Every opportunity to explore the world was taken, and though for a time she was convinced that marriage was not in the cards, Pat appeared in Edmonton in 1955. They were engaged two weeks later(!) and married in Winnipeg the following year. Settling in Prince George (Pat's home town). It was here that they made their home and raised their family. A shared interest in gardening, camping and fishing, and various crafts marked their 54 years together. Ilse was an accomplished seamstress and (with Pat) an avid wood turner. They spent the best years of their "retirement" active in both the local and regional craft communities. This shared interest took them around the world, from Norway to New Zealand, and was the basis of many warm and lasting friendships. The family would like to thank Dr. Garry Knoll and team and the staff at Jubilee Lodge for their exceptional care. A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation are welcome
