Stephanus (Steve) Kolida January 15, 1925- January 21, 2013 Steve Kolida died peacefully on January 21, 2013 in Prince George. Steve was born in Poland and came to McBride, BC at 6 years of age with his family. Steve will be greatly missed by his children; Steve Jr. (Eveline), Bobbi Ann (Nelson), Philip (Marilyn), Randy (Rosanna), Sherry (Randy), daughter-in-law Susan (Henry), his 11 grandchildren; Kathy, Karla, Peter, Sandra (Mike), Michael, Trevor (Connie), Riley, Serena, Paul, Bradley, Troy, and his 5 great grandchildren; Ella, Ava, Chad, Ryder and Taylor. Steve is survived by his sister Anne Porrier and his many nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Rose Johnson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne, son Terry, parents Paul and Agatha Kolida, brothers; Roman, Walter, John, William, Paul, and sister Jenny. Steve joined the 1st battalion of the Canadian Scottish in 1943 and proudly fought for his country for 3 years. He married his beloved Anne Prokopow on September 4, 1949 and raised his family in McBride. Steve worked for the CNR until 1958 and then became an entrepreneur, owning many businesses until his semi-retirement in 1993. Steve's involvement in public service was always in the forefront and he served the village of McBride as Alderman and Mayor for 25 years. Steve loved sports, prospecting, hunting, fishing, berry picking and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He helped many people during his lifetime. Steve was definitely a character who was "larger than life". Grandpa Kolida will be greatly missed. A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at the Free Evangelical Church in McBride at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The family wishes to thank all of those who have taken care of Steve during his illness and especially, all the staff at the Schaffer Residence in Prince George for their loving care of Steve for the last 2 years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the McBride Royal Canadian Legion, Box 332, McBride, BC, V0J 2E0 would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements by Assman's Funeral Home.
