Rodd Crandall Obituary

Rodd Crandall , known professionally as Peter Clemente, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2014 surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Joanne and three children Dara, Emma and Pietr, his parents, Sterling and Helen Crandall and his siblings, Dean, Bruce, Stephen and Leslie and their respective families. Rodd worked as news director at CKPG in the late 70s and spent 25 years as a reporter at CKVU in Vancouver. After returning to Prince George he lent his voice to CFIS on their weekly talk show and for a classical music program. Rodd became chronically ill in 2003 and throughout his health battle maintained a positive spirit and unwavering faith. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and powerful storytelling skills. He will leave a void that won't be easily filled. A Celebration of Life will be held a College Heights Baptist Church at 2pm on Sunday February 16, 2014. All are welcome. All of us who had the sheer joy of working with 'Peter' at CKVU have been given an eternal gift that will live on - being touched by an inspirational spirit of levity, curiosity and caring not to be surpassed nor forgotten. Sincere condolences to his family at this very sad time. He will be greatly missed by many .

I worked with Rodd in the early 80's and also got to know him outside of work later on as we shared a common faith. We lost touch when he and Joanne moved to Vancouver and I only learned of his passing today and want to wish Joanne and family heartfelt hugs and prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Peter (Rodd) at ckvu. First time I met Peter was on my BCIT Broadcast tour in PG in 1982. He was reading the News and made a lasting impression. Peter always amazed me with his wonderful sense of humour, his intellect, especial historical religion, and his ability to grasp and tell the story, as only he could. His kindness will always be remembered.

I learned today of Rodd's /Peter's passing and while it makes me sad to hear he's gone, I quickly remember the great memories of working with him at CKPG from 77 to 80. many fun times, many good conversations late at night. Sometimes at the cafe next door, sometimes in the newsroom. I'm so glad I was able to see him in 09 during a road trip to Prince George that summer. My thoughts and prayers from me and Arlie to Joanne and the rest of the family

I worked with Peter for many years. What a privilege. He was a reporter's reporter, a storyteller, a gentleman and a teacher. I replayed his pieces many a time to learn from: his word selection; the cadence of his delivery and his unforgettable stand ups so masterful. Thank you for being you Peter. Your kindness, talents and humour will live on.

Having went to school with Rodd I can attest to his story telling skills from an early age. I always felt honoured that I was included in his circle. I can't remember the exact story about how he picked his Peter name but he had us in stitches telling it. He was also very proud of being the first voice on a new station in Prince George years ago. Unable to remember which one but remember tuning in to hear him. I like many others will miss the twinkle in his eyes and how when he chatted, at that moment you were the most important person to him. He also gave great hugs. Joanne and family may God bless and keep you during this time. Always my love.

I am so sad to learn of Rod's passing. He was such a gentleman in his relations with his co-workers at CKVU, where I had the privilege of working with him for six years during the 1980s. I well remember the many "off-line" talks we had about philosophical and spiritual matters, and also treasure the memories of the many times he made me laugh or smile with the stories he produced on-air. My condolences to the family for their loss.

I am heartbroken to learn of Peter's passing.
He was such a bear of a man, but he had a gentle soul and a generous heart. I had the pleasure of seeing Peter in the CTV Vancouver newsroom just a year or two ago. Even though well over a decade had passed since our last meeting, we instantly shared laughs and memories of our adventures together at CKVU.
He was always such a beautiful writer and storyteller.
For years I have shared with my BCIT journalism students a television story he did about Princess Diana's funeral. He went out in the middle of the night with a cameraman and found people in the corners of the city who shared wonderful stories of what Diana meant to them. It was an amazingly powerful story I never tire of watching. Peter loved Shakespeare and Mozart. I pray he is sharing a glass of fine tipple with them both. Good night my friend I will miss you. Say hi to Mark and Joey and Brian. I know they will keep you in good company.

My condolences to Rodd's family. I knew him as Peter when he hired me at CKPG in 1982 before he left for CKVU. We had a great newsroom -- worked hard and had a lot of fun. I remember lunches next door at the Outrigger. And for about a year we rented Peter and Joanne's house on Guest Crescent before it sold. I'm glad those wall's can't talk. Coming to Prince George from Kamloops was a great step in my career and I can thank Peter Clemente for that.
