Lawrence Edward Hamm, 85, of Ettrick, passed away on Nov. 8, 2013. He was the son of the late Frank Weldon Hamm and Virginia Slate Hamm; and was also preceded in death by: his wife, Doris Pond Hamm; a brother, William Franklin Hamm; one sister, Rebecca Hamm Jones; and his son-in-law, John E. Dawley Jr., retired colonel.
He is survived by: his daughter, Jenny H. Dawley; two sons, John M. Hamm and James L. Hamm; grandsons, John "Jay" E. Dawley III and Jeffrey J. Dawley and wife, Katie; one sister, Mary H. Hawkins; and numerous nieces; and nephews.
Mr. Hamm retired from the Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons as a carpenter foreman after 20 years of service, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Ettrick. Mr. Hamm was a member of the Ettrick Hunt Club and served as its president for over 30 years.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Bill King, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.

I met Lawrence through the Ettrick Hunt Club about 15 years ago. I loved listening to all of his stories about hunting and family. I will think of him every time I pass thru the gates at the club.
