Mrs. Zenabell Skinner, a resident of Emporia Manor for a number of years, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014. She was born Nov. 4, 1926, to the late Edward and Maggie Jordan Branch in Dinwiddie County. Zenabell was the third oldest of 10 children.
She was educated in Dinwiddie County. Upon graduating from high school, Zenabell moved to Norfolk, where she spent most of her adult life.
Raised in a Christian home, she confessed Christ at an early age and joined the First Baptist Church in Jarratt. After moving to Norfolk, she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Zenabell was actively employed in the food service industry. She was married to James Skinner, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four sisters, Evelyn Wyche (Ezell) of Jarratt, Alee McFarland of Newark, N.J., Annie Mae Peel of Chesapeake, and Lucy L. Baker (the Rev. Henry G.) Suffolk; one sister-in-law, Lottie O. Branch of Stony Creek; one uncle, the Rev. Clarence Merritt (Mary) of Hackensack, N.J.; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at the McKenney Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David L. Banks Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Norfolk.
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
