Charles Lionel Packer, 91, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.
Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of the Harry and Anna Bellet Packer. Mr. Packer was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a graduate of Long Island University and was a licensed pharmacist in both New York and Virginia. An accomplished musician, he played professionally in his younger years and later for the enjoyment of his friends and family. In addition, he was a merchant in Petersburg for many years.
Mr. Packer is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Scherr Packer; children, Michael Packer and wife, Karen, Dr. Gerald Packer and Rose Ann Packer; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Brith Achim Cemetery. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
