Mrs. Alice G. Freeman, of 845 Young Ave., Petersburg, Va., departed this life Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.
She was a lifelong member of Union Grove Baptist Church, South Chesterfield, Va. When she was not attending to her family, Mrs. Freeman was a devoted employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. as well as Walnut Hill Nursing Home (now Golden Living Center) for many years.
She was the daughter of the late John H. Thomas Sr. and Dorothy M. Thomas. She is also preceded in death by two daughters, Margaret T. Brown and Gilda Freeman; one granddaughter, Marsha A. Thomas; five brothers, Robert Thomas, John H. Thomas Jr., Malcolm Thomas, Milton Thomas and W. Edward Thomas; and three sisters, Dorothy Mae Pettiford, Lucille Valentine and Margaret Louise Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of over 50 years, William Freeman; two grandsons, Thomas and Samuel Brown, both of Petersburg, Va.; one stepdaughter, Valerie Freeman-Driver of Petersburg, Va.; one stepson, Wesley Tucker of Bowie, Md.; six sisters, Elva Thorpe of South Chesterfield, Va., Gracie Wilson of Aberdeen, Md., Alma Kemper and Delores Goode, both of South Chesterfield, Va., Virginia King of Caseyville, Ill., and Gloria Jones of Bronx, N.Y.; two brothers, James R. Thomas Sr. (Grace) and Harold L. Thomas (Marilyn), both of South Chesterfield, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Annie M. Batts and Mary F. Jones, both of Dinwiddie, Va.; one brother-in-law, Elmore Freeman (Irene) of Dinwiddie, Va.; one goddaughter, Grace Thomas-White of Chester, Va.; and and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Alice G. Freeman will be held noon Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Harold Braxton, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
