ADELLE ANDREWS Obituary

Adelle Virginia Briggs Andrews joyously celebrated her life from May 3, 1933, until God completed the place He prepared for her on Jan. 17, 2013, when she entered the gates of heaven.

Adelle was the daughter of the late Ervin and Agnes Briggs of Jarratt, Va., who instilled in her an unwavering faith in God. At an early age, she was baptized and became an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jarratt, Va.,A until she fell in love with her soul mate, Algie Andrews, and relocated to Baltimore in 1956.

Adelle attended Waverly High School in Waverly, Va., and was a member of the class of 1952. Adelle followed the occupation of her loving aunt Ruth in her teenage years and became a cosmetologist. Adelle would create styles like no other using old school and professional training and techniques that would make a hair style last for weeks. Adelle enjoyed serving her clients until 2003 when she retired after 52 years of service. Adelle was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Algie, and her son, Aldwin.

Adelle leaves to cherish her loving memory and celebrate her life, her daughter, Myra Carroll and son-in-law, the Rev. Eric Carroll, of Baltimore. Adelle has three sisters, Gloria and Fannie Briggs of Baltimore, and Carolyn Shands (Samuel) of Stony Creek, Va.; two brothers who preceded her in death, Alexander "Bennie" and Richard Briggs; one aunt, the Rev. Ethel B. Poarch of Stony Creek, Va.; one granddaughter, Erica Dukes (Leonard Sr.) of Owings Mills, Md.; one goddaughter and niece, Samantha Hall (Malik) of Columbia, Md.; six nephews, Darryl Briggs of Baltimore, Kenneth Andrews (Dorothy) of Stafford, Va., and Lorenzo Andrews of Florida; nephews Derrick and Troy Jackson and Rodney Andrews all preceded her in death; one sister-in-law, Laris Andrews of Jarrett, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Damaris, Leah and Leonard Dukes Jr. of Owings Mills, Md.; three great-nieces, LaKeisha Jackson, Janae Jackson of Baltimore, and Maliah Hall of Columbia, Md.; three great-nephews, Tavon Jackson of Baltimore, Malachi Hall of Columbia, Md., and Kenneth Andrews Jr. (Moya) of Richmond, Va.; three great-great-nephews, Lamontae Smith, Ky-Rhen Chatman and Rahmir Jackson of Baltimore; three great-great-nieces Jaylyn Jackson, Siara Andrews and Maya of Richmond, Va.; exceptionally loving and caring friends, Willie Stewart Jr. and Kelly Rochelle (son Kyle), both of Baltimore; and lifetime devoted friends, Viola Barney, Christine Jackson and Barbara Fagan (Greg), all of Baltimore; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries, Baltimore. Interment will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mill, Md.
