On April 14, 2013, God in his infinite wisdom called his son from his earthly home to his heavenly home.
Mr. Carlton David Banks, affectionately known as "David", was born on April 11, 1951, in Christiansburg. David's parents moved to Chesterfield in 1966. He was educated in the Chesterfield County school system and continued his education at John Tyler Community College and Virginia State University.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, reading. He was very passionate about trains, Civil War history and he enjoyed going to shows pertaining to his hobbies. David was very articulate; he had a smooth, dynamic voice and was well known for his disc jockey work at several radio stations: WANT, WSSV and WHAP, just to name a few, for over 22 years. David was also employed as a case manager for the Commonwealth of Virginia Child Support Enforcement division.
In 1999, David and his family joined the Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He served diligently on the Trustee Ministry and the director of the Angel Food Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Banks Sr. and Neva W. Banks.
David is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Dorrie H. Banks; a daughter, Charmaine D. Winfield (Trenton) of Vista, Calif.; two brothers, John F. Banks Jr. of Richmond, and William E. Banks Sr. of Orlando, Fla.; three adopted sisters, Marcella Christian of Richmond, Claristine Moore of Petersburg, and Evelyn Weber of Springfield; four brothers-in-law, Otis Hewlett, (Gloria), Walter Hewlett (Reneé), Stephen Hewlett (Jeannie), and Ricky Hewlett (Arleen), all of Chesterfield; two sisters-in-law, Mary Murdock of Hopewell, and Billie Love Ragsdale of Oxon Hill, Md.; one aunt-in-law, Iver Watkins (which he thought of as a mother figure); and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

Carl was a great friend, I will always remember that he was always ahead of our circle of friends. Always willing to help others and to put him last last. I also remember his favorite tv show back in the day MASH !
No matter what the group was watching when MASH came on Banks as we called him would convince us that we all wanted to watch MASH and so we did !!!

Dorrie and Family, my prayers are with you. May God continue to bless you and Charmaine. Carlton was my best friend who always called to check on me. He would stop by with the shoe magazines because he knew I love shoes! Carlton will be missed by my sister, Evelyn Mason-Eldridge of Macon, GA who worked with him (graduated same high school class), and me. Much love to you Dorrie for sharing Carlton with all of us. Peace to Carlton and Grace and Mercy to you and your family.
