Fred Thomas Yeatts Jr., 82, of Chesterfield, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at his residence. Born in Rice, Va., he was the son of the late Fred Thomas Sr. and Grace Rickman Yeatts, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Alma C. Yeatts. Mr. Yeatts was a long time resident of Petersburg and has lived in Chesterfield County since 1986. He retired from Brown and Williamson and later from Phillip Morris. In his retirement, he loved to cut wood, tell stories, and was known as "The Bike Man" because of his love for working on bicycles. He was very proud to receive his GED the same year that his youngest child graduated from high school and he was also a proud 12 step fellowship member for 38 years. Mr. Yeatts is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Daniel Yeatts; six children, Fred Yeatts and wife, Angie, James "Eddie" Yeatts and wife, Tootsie, Betty Jones and husband, Steve, Debbie Henshaw and husband, Mike, Teddy Yeatts, and Cindy Lowman and husband, Terry; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Calvin Yeatts of Chester, Ronnie Yeatts of Rowlett, Texas, and Johnny Summers of Lubbock, Texas; his sister, Gail Toney of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; and his beloved baby girl, "Princess." A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Pastor Ryan Atchison officiating. Burial to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at the funeral home. Mrs. Lillian Alfriend Blackwell Stewart, affectionately known "Baby Sis," of 15314 White Oak Road, Church Road, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, Va. A native of Dinwiddie County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Nadius and Mattie Lee Young Blackwell. She joined the Center Star Baptist Church at an early age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Stewart Jr., and brother, Herbert Lee Blackwell, and sister-in-law, Martha Stewart Gholson. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her four sons, Michael Jerome Stewart (Julia) of Newport News, Va., Jeffery Wendall Stewart of Dinwiddie, Va., William Henry Stewart (Audrey) of Newport News, Va., and Logan Scott Stewart of Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to especially thank HCC, VCU and Southside Regional medical centers for all acts of kindness during the illness of our mother, Mrs. Lillian Alfriend Blackwell Stewart. Ms. Debra Ann Rives, of 206 Nottingham Drive, Colonial Heights, Va., departed this life on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at her residence. Debra was born on Feb. 17, 1961, in Dinwiddie, Va. Debra was the daughter of the late Raymond Walker and Shirley Ann Rives. Debra also was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mildred and Walter Rives, and Charlie and Gracie Walker. Debra was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, Va., at an early age. Debra attended Dinwiddie County Public Schools and Petersburg High School, where she graduated in 1982. Debra attended college and receive a nursing assistance certification. Debra leaves to cherish her memory, four devoted children, Sherina, Tovarus, Kendral and DeAngelo Rives (Kandyce), two grandchildren, Shaymonia and Sayonie Rives, all of Colonial Heights, Va.; four aunts, Lillian Keal of Pottsville, Pa., Nannie Rives of Hopewell, Va., Frances Rives of Petersburg, Va, and Lettie Threat of Dinwiddie, Va.; one uncle, Charlie Walker of Pottsville, Pa.; several stepbrothers and stepsisters; one devoted cousin, whom she called her sister and best friend, Martha Loperl of South Chesterfield, Va.; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Debra was a very flamboyant and outspoken person. Services for Ms. Deborah A. Rives will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Sharon Baptist Church, 26804 Fort Emory Road, Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Herbert W. Anderson, pastor, eulogist. Lucille Williams Givens, 95, of 1028 West Main St., Waverly, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va., after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family. Lucille was born in Waverly, Va., to the late John and Nellie Jones Williams. From this union, she was the youngest of six children. She was married to the late Willie Givens Sr. for over 60 years prior to his death. She was a devoted and an amazing mother of eight. Lucille was preceded in death by two sons, Willie Givens Jr. and Welford Givens; two daughters, Nellie Mae Stith Parker and Lucille Givens Williams; one grandson, Larry Stith and one great-granddaughter, Pamela Taylor. Also preceding her in death were her beloved sisters, Jezebell Rose, Mary Birchett, Pearl Mason, Matter Sue Byrd and Viola Jones. She retired from Fort Lee, Va., after 28 years of service. Lucille gave her life to Christ at an early age. For many years, she was a faithful servant of God. She loved the Lord and always put God first in her life. Lucille was a faithful member of the Shining Light Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a dedicated worker and served in various church ministries. Because of her devotion and wisdom as a mighty woman of God, she was honored to serve as the 'Mother of the Church." She was a supportive member of the Neighborhood Prayer Warriors, and always looked forward to attending the weekly prayer worship service. She was inspired by gospel music and all were blessed by her singing. Lucille was a woman of many gifts and talents to include sewing and cooking. She had a profound love for people, as evidenced through her many acts of kindness. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Joyce Givens and Lottie Givens of New York, N.Y. and Phyllis Powers of North Providence, RI; one son, Phillip Givens (Victoria) of Louisville, Ky.: eight grandchildren, Truly Taylor (Phillip) of Richmond, Va., Diana Finley (Eddie) of New York, N.Y., Herbert Stith (Jeanelle), Calvin Stith and Aron Stith of Waverly, Va., Phillip Givens Jr. and Montez Givens of Louisville, Ky., and Mark Givens of Detroit, Mich.; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one son-in-law, Darrell Williams of New Fairfield, Conn.; adopted son, John Thomas (Patricia); adopted daughters, Mariah Mason, Bertha Mason Smith, Ophelia Wilkins, Sonda Parham, Cynthia Johnson and Helen Burgess. Funeral service for Mother Givens will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at the Empowerment Temple, 219 North County Drive, Waverly, Va., with Evangelist Valerie Coffield officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Waverly Cemetery. Mrs. Givens may be viewed one hour prior to service at the church.
