On Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, Mr. Alvin Leo Parham, of 35 W. Filmore St., Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal rest peacefully on his 75th birthday, at the Southside Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 7, 1938, to the late Robert Parham, and the late Dorothy O. Parham. At an early age, he confessed Christ, and joined the Providence Baptist Church, Prince George, Va., and later in life became a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg. He was a retired employee of Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lawson; brothers, Connie L. Parham and Jerome Parham.
He leaves to cherish his memory, children, Dennis Parham (Gloria) of Petersburg, Darren Parham (Michelle)of Grovetown, Ga., Donnie Morgan (Rusha) of Birmingham, Ala., Minister Janet Flowers (Michael) of Petersburg; stepson, Dwight Merriweather (Natasha) of Hephzibah, Ga.; sisters, Wilma Brackins (Virgil) of Petersburg, Shirley Blount (Howard) of Egg Harbor, N.J., Elaine Corum (Tony) of Belair, Md.; a host of grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, to include a devoted friend and former wife, Robbie Parham.
A service celebrating the life of Mr. Parham will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 451 Halifax St., Petersburg, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. On the day of the service, the family will assemble at 1:15 p.m. at 624 Tollgate Lane, Petersburg, for the procession. Public viewing will be held on Friday at the funeral home.
