Mr. Andrew Franklin Jones Jr., the son of the late Andrew Jones Sr. and Gertrude Dolly Brooks Jones, was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Charles City County, Va., and departed this life Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at home in Richmond, Va.
At an early age, he joined Little Elam Baptist Church. He attended Ruthville elementary and high school in Charles City County. He later in years moved to Hampton, Va., where his life-long work history continued. His ability and strong desire to work was his greatest accomplishments. He enjoyed receiving accolades of his hard work. He definitely had the spirit of an entrepreneur. He could figure out things almost equal to one with a degree. He regrets and lacked the completing of his education. But he never walked away from a challenge. He believed where there is a will, there is a way.
Later, he met and fell in love with Gloria Elizabeth Moore and was married on Nov. 2, 1977. And to this union there were no born children. He was blessed to have raised his granddaughter and grandchildren from a previous marriage. And he enjoyed every moment.
Later he moved to Roanoke, Va., and began serving in ministry and he was baptized in Apostolic Holiness. He returned back to Richmond, Va., a little while as his health began to fail him. He was a loving husband, grandfather, and a devoted son, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, William Henry Jones, Lillian Brown, Pauline Bordeaux, and Janice Brown.
Andrew leaves to mourn his wife, Gloria Jones; daughters; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rebecca Cypress of Jonesboro, Ga., Diana Brown, Connie Alexander, both of Newport News, Va., and Suzette Brown of Emporia, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Jones Sr., of Charles City, Va., and Clarence Brown of Norfolk, Va.; 14 great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law, Rosa Jones: one brother-in-law, Mack Alexander; a special aunt, Faye Jones; and host of nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins. Also, his special cousin/brother, Lloyd Jones Jr., was his partner in most events in life and a special cousin, Sis. Willie Jane Johnson.
Service for Mr. Andrew F. Jones will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Little Elam Baptist Church, 8840 Church Lane, Charles City, Va., Pastor Daniel Wallace, eulogist. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
