Mrs. Anita L. Gay, 60, of 1808 Freeman St., went home to eternal peace on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1953, in Independence, Kan., to the union of the late Mattie L Downing (Whitmore) and AD Morrison. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Larry Morrison.
Anita attended the public school system in Independence, Kan. She graduated from Topeka High School, Topeka, Kan. Anita worked a number of years at the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka and for the federal government during her time in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Upon moving to Virginia, she worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia at Southside Virginia Training Center, Greensville Correctional Center and VCU Health Systems, where she retired.
Anita was a member of Mt Carmel Baptist Church, where she was in the Judith of Praise Choir and a member of the Missionary Circle. Anita was a good-hearted person that loved good conversation and helping people.
Anita leaves to cherish her memory, her former husband and close friend, Tommy Gay of Hopewell, Va.; her son, Jarrod Gay of Hopewell, Va.; a devoted aunt, Jean Carter (William) of Bedford Heights, Ohio; and a host of relatives and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mt Carmel Baptist Church, 925 Arlington Road, Hopewell; the Rev. William Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery.
The family will assemble 12:15 p.m. at the residence on the day of service.
