Mr. Barry Lee Powell, of 2802 W. Park Drive, Petersburg, Va., received his wings on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Barry was born April 3, 1958, to the late James and Irene Powell. He was baptized at First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va.
Barry was preceded in death by his loving parents who raised him, Algie and Evelyn Birchett; grandparents, Cornelius and Queen Bell; eight aunts; three uncles; numerous cousins and close friends.
Barry was a quiet, sweet, easy going person. He was a friend to all he met, and to know him was to love him. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, and he loved professional wrestling. Barry was a great uncle to his nieces and nephews, with who he spent lots of time with. He was a loving caring brother and he will be greatly missed.
Barry leaves to cherish his memory, one devoted sister, Romona Birchett (Garry) of Petersburg; five brothers, James Powell (Debra) of Petersburg, Dairre Powell (Brigitte) of Elkton, Md., devoted-Donnell Powell (Tina) of Woodbridge, Jerry Powell (Robin) of Petersburg, and devoted-Steven Powell; one uncle, James Bell; one aunt, Helen Todd; several devoted nieces and nephews, Dwayne and Latosha Birchett, and Janel and George Cole Jr.; devoted friends, Ski, Glenda, Charles, Butler, Clyde and the Harrison Street Gang; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Barry L. Powell will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va. Interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive at 2802 W. Park Drive, Petersburg, Va.
