On Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, Calvin Lorenzo "Larry" Butts departed his life at his home in Wakefield. He was the seventh child of the late James Vernon and Vernell Saunders Butts of Surry County. Larry was born on Sept. 2, 1957. He attended L.P. Jackson High School, Dendron, and was employed at Food Lion distribution center for over 15 years.
At an early age, Larry accepted Jesus Christ and became a member of Union Baptist Church, Spring Grove.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted and loving wife of 24 years, Patricia Gray Butts; three daughters, Latisha Butts (Michael), Temika Sebree (Davis); Shonta (Demien) of Wakefield; two sons, Kevon Butts (Lynette) and Calvin Stith (Markita) of Wakefield; 10 grandchildren, Tayeon, Jasmine, Marshawn, Marquez, Marzavien, Trajan, Khaliah, Myiyaoni, Travon and Xziya; four brothers, James Butts (Vernice), Wakefield, Odell Butts (Patricia) of Petersburg, Antoine Butts of Wakefield and Carol Lee Butts of Spring Grove; two sisters, Sharlene Graves of Frederickburg, and Minister Eva J. Butts-Brown of Spring Grove; two sister-in-laws, Catherine Smallwood, Wakefield, Doris Gray Parson (Allen) Elberon; three brother-in-laws, Nathaniel Gray (Colleen), Ernest Gray and Marvin Gray, Wakefield; and a host nieces; nephews; and other relatives; and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield. Interment will follow Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Surry. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on the day of the service.
