CARL J. SMITHSON

On April 19, 2013, God needed another soldier for His army and he looked around and saw my husband, our dad and your friend, Mr. Carl J. Smithson, 65, of 2012 Colston St., Petersburg, Va., and ascended him to Heaven.

At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined Mt. Bethel Baptist Church of Kenbridge, Va., where he was a member of the Deacon Board. He was a member of the gospel group, Russell Coleman and the Heavenly Aires.

He was educated in the Lunenburg County Public School System. He had several businesses that he loved, Carl's Body Shop and Smithson Land Clearing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smithson; a grandson, Carl Smithson III; a brother, Joseph Carter; a sister-in-law, Tammy Tucker; and brother-in-law, Dunnie Tucker.

He leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife, Cassanora Smithson; daughters, Lisa Smithson of New York, Daphne Winfield (Dwight), Kim Hargraves, Crissandra Mabry (Clint), "devoted" Clasha Bailey and "devoted" Rachel Lane (Lamont), all of Petersburg, Va.; sons, Carl Booker (Monica) of Hampton, Va., Patrick Mayo (Sandy) of Kenbridge, Va., Carl Smithson Jr., Adam Smithson and Randy Smithson, all of New York, and Eric Smithson of Northern Virginia; 21 grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Hawkins and Carolyn Smithson, both of Victoria, Va.; a brother, Larry Hardy of Blackstone, Va.; one aunt, Iola Adams (91) of Victoria, Va.; one uncle, Donald Smithson of North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Joseph "Pete" Tucker (Tammy) of Petersburg, Va., and Lloyd Tucker (Sandra) of Ettrick, Va.; two sisters-in-law, JoAnne Tucker of Petersburg, Va., and Maria Jones (Steve) of Prince George, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, devoted cousins and friends, among them, George and Magnolia Rivers, Leon and Sheila Crawley, Donna Thomas and Russell Coleman, and the Heavenly Aires.

A funeral service for Mr. Carl J. Smithson will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 102 Aikens Road, Victoria, Va.; the Rev. C. L. Hobbs Jr., pastor, eulogist. The interment will follow at the Smithson Family Cemetery, Kenbridge, Va.
