Mrs. Carolyn Elain Claiborne, 69, of Hopewell, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at John Randolph Medical Center.

Mrs. Claiborne was a native of Hopewell, born on April 3, 1943, to the late Edward Johnson Sr. and Francis V. Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Claiborne; sisters, Mamie Reese and Barbara Riviore.

She was a graduate of Carter G. Woodson School. She was a retiree of Southside Training Center. She was presently employed at Phoenix & Raines Group Home.

Mrs. Claiborne was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She was a devoted member of the Pastor Aide Club and looked forward to attending church whenever she was able.

Left to cherish her memory are: devoted brother, Edward Johnson Jr; devoted sister, Sylvia Johnson; sister-in-law, Joyce Claiborne; host of nieces, nephews, stepchildren; among them very special and devoted friends, Carrie Williams, Effie Smith, Beverly Tucker and Edna Brown.

A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Hopewell. The pastor, the Rev. William Roberts, will eulogize. Interment will follow in the Mt. Sinai Community Cemetery.
