The concluding chapter in God's Book of Life for our beloved, Mr. Charles Armendo Wongus, who was loving referred to by all who knew him and loved him as "Menda," was peacefully closed at his residence on Thursday, July 17, 2014, in the humble village of Chester, Va.
Menda was a precious gift and the first-born offspring to LaFern Fisher Wongus and the late Charles Wongus on Aug. 26, 1947, in Baltimore. In addition to his late father, Menda was also greeted at Heaven's Gates by his grandparents, the late Deacon James Burrell and Annie Lucille Fisher, and his precious grandson, the late Jordyn DaShon Harris.
At an early age, Menda relocated to Chester, Va., and lived with his loving grandparents. He was educated in the Chesterfield County Public School System and was a proud member of the George Washington Carver High School graduating Class of 1965. At an early age, Menda surrendered his life to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Menda demonstrated his civic duty to defend his country as he enlisted in the United States Air Force
on May 24, 1965, during the Vietnam War
. Menda attained the rank of sergeant first class and was awarded an honorable discharge for his service. Menda was gainfully employed with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co., E.I. DuPont Co. and Defense General Supply Company (DGSC), also known as Bellwood.
On June 15, 1974, Menda's life was blessed with the miracle of a wonderful baby girl, LaDawna MeShon Harris, whom he lovingly called his "Squidley." Without a doubt, LaDawna was truly the "apple of her Daddy's eyes" and dearest to his heart. Menda showered his little girl with love, compassion and admiration.
He was a wonderful, loving and devoted father. Menda was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed fishing, gardening, good music and spending time with "Fellas at the Breeze Way."
He was a two-time Past Master of Sheba Lodge #17 in Petersburg, Va. We will dearly miss his loving presence in our lives, but we trust and pray that though he is absent from his physical body, "his soul is present with the Lord." We thank God for blessing our lives with our precious Menda!
Menda's life, love and legacy will be forever cherished by his loving and devoted mother, LaFern Fisher Wongus; a loving and devoted daughter, LaDawna MeShon Harris; a loving and devoted sister, Deborah Wongus; a loving aunt, Deaconess Viola L. Fisher; a devoted uncle, Deacon Charles T. Fisher (Deaconess Gloria P.); one devoted niece, Katia Z.
