Mrs. Christina W. Parham made her debut into the world on June 6, 1922, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Her parents were William and Anna Williams. Called to her heavenly home by the Lord Jesus Christ, she took her final bow and exited this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center.
In the 1930s, Christina's family migrated from West Virginia to Connecticut. She completed her high school education in the Bridgeport Public School System. Her first job was at General Electric, where she worked assembling radio parts. Then in 1946, she met and married an U.S. Army serviceman, the late Horace B. Parham Sr. Since Horace was a native of Virginia, the young couple packed up and headed south. They settled in Sussex County, Va., but later moved to West Petersburg (North Dinwiddie), where Christina lived for 60 years. She was an employee of Central State Hospital until her retirement after 25 years of service.
At a young age, Christina gave her life to Christ. She was member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. In the earlier years of her membership, she sang in the choir and served on the Usher Board. She also sponsored the Junior Flock, the youth group of the church. She was active until her health began to decline.
Christina was the third oldest child in a large family of 10 siblings. She had four sisters, Julia, Zettie, Cleo and Annie Mae, and five brothers, Alfred, Eugene, John, Billy and Freddie. All of her siblings have preceded her to glory.
She leaves three daughters and three sons to bid her a fond farewell until they meet again within the gates of heaven. The daughters are Shelia P. Boyd (Joseph), Cynthia P. Powell (Larry) and Vallerie Parham-Gilbert (Robert). The sons are Horace B. Parham Jr. (Teliscia), Larry R. Parham Sr. (Marie) and Ronald P. Parham (Antonita).
She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters-in-law, Eva P. Ellis and Rachel P. Young (Robert); two devoted grandsons, Larry R. Parham Jr. and Bobby D. Gilbert. She leaves a total of eight grandsons and four granddaughters; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
