Clara E. Batts

Clara Evelyn Batts, 87, of 218 Brunswick Village Drive, Lawrenceville, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 26, 2007 at the Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill. She was a native of McKenney and the daughter of the late James Edward and Harriet Evelyn Cooper Batts. At early age she joined the Big Bethel Baptist Church. Sister Clara spent most of her adult life in Brooklyn, New York and joined the Prince of Peace Pentecostal Church where she served on the usher board for many years. She was a retired nurse's aide at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical in Brooklyn. Sister Clara will always be remembered for her great since of humor and her quite spirit.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, a loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Roland W. Alston (Alfreda Holmes-Alston) of Reston, two grandchildren, Sequoia Garnell Alston of Atlanta, Ga., and Roland Kristopher Alston of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-grandchild, Connor Roland Alston of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister of Evangelist Josephine B. Batts of Lawrenceville; two sisters-in-law, Lottie Batts of Warfield and Helen Batts of Lawrenceville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Big Bethel Baptist Church, McKenney, with Bishop Ernest Brown, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the church at 1:45 p.m. on the day of the service. The family can be contacted at (434) 848-8373, Evangelist Batts. The body may be viewed at the church one hour prior to the service and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services entrusted to the Joseph M.
