Mr. Clarence Lee Mabry affectionately known as "Bro," of 21808 McKenney Highway, Stony Creek, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 13, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.
He was born Feb. 3, 1948, to the late Sunnie P. and Barbara Branch Mabry in Dinwiddie County. Bro was educated in the Dinwiddie County School System and graduated from Southside High School in the class of 1966. He joined the Army
serving honorably during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged and worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco and Georgia Pacific until his health failed.
Bro was a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County. Often, you could find him sitting on his porch or spending time at the creek visiting with other neighbors. In his younger years, he had a passion for fast cars and often raced them. He accepted Christ at an early age, joining Little Bethel Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Dr. Kandace Mabry Winfield (Kyle) of Prince George; son, Kendall Mabry (Kimberly) of Decatur, Ga.; a sister, Mary Mabry Benjamin (the late Charles E.); two foster sisters, Doretha Mason Daughtry of Emporia and Sheila Walker of Petersburg; two grandchildren, Elle and Eden Winfield; nephew, Edwin Orlando Benjamin (Dr. Shanna) of North Liberty, Iowa; niece, Traci C. Benjamin of Pine Hill, N.J,; a great-niece, Chloe; a great-nephew, Spencer; five aunts, Zenabell Skinner of Emporia, Evelyn Wyche (Ezell) of Jarratt, Alee McFarland of Newark, N.J., Annie Mae Peel of Chesapeake, Lucy L. Baker (Rev. Henry G.) of Suffolk; one great-uncle, the Rev. Clarence Merritt (Mary) of Hackensack, N.J.; and a host of cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Little Bethel Baptist Church, Stony Creek, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. David L. banks Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Branch family cemetery. Viewing will be held at the McKenney Chapel on Tuesday June 18, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
