Mrs. Dorothy Lee Clarke, 89, of 6426 Tranquality Lane, Sutherland, Va., departed this life Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was born May 9, 1924, to the late Johnny and Pearl Taylor Davis.
She dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children. She loved cooking, sewing, going to church and praising the Lord. She was a member of St. Peter R.Z.U.A. Church until her health declined. She remained supportive for her church.
Mrs. Clarke was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Clarke; son, Henry Clarke; daughter, Dorothy Wilkerson; grandson, William Thomas III; sister, Lucille Satterwhite; and brother, Charlie Davis.
Left to cherish her memory is one very devoted daughter, Shirley C. Payton; three devoted sons, Richard Clarke, James Clarke and Edward Clarke; devoted daughter–in–law, Sylvia Clarke; very devoted sons–in-law, Lewis Wilkerson and Preston Payton; 10 grandchildren, Deacon Lewis Wilkerson (Lois), Henry Wilkerson (Gail), Richard Wilkerson (Carla), Stephane Freeman, Shirley Thomas (Kimbo), James Thomas, Douglas Clarke (Lesli), Nicole Young (William), Vickie Walker and Sheila Lewis; six foster grandchildren, the Rev. Ronald Roberts (Julia), Deacon Arlene Jackson (Thomas), Valerie Chavis (Melvin) Charlene McKensie (Robert), Gloria Briggs and Karen Haskin; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 11 foster great-grandchildren; 17 foster great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Edward and Luther Clarke; several nieces and nephews, among very devoted Sheryl Clanton; host of family and friends, to include Lillie Bonner, Phil Pegram, Alice Mae Enochs, and Mattie Wilkerson, the Tuckers, Carla Wilkerson and William Thomas, and several close cousins, Blanche Morris and Tina Jones.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St., Petersburg; pastor, Dr. Robert A. Diggs, and Pastor Malcolm Crutchfield, Bethel Memorial R.Z.U.A., eulogist. Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will assemble noon at 1311 Lincoln St., Petersburg, on the day of service.
