Mrs. Geneva W. Nunnally, 85, of the Blandford Ccmmunity, departed this life on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 1205 Rome St., Petersburg, the residence of her daughter, Patricia L. Nunnally.
She was born to Oliver Williams and Jennie Dickerson Williams on Feb. 4, 1928, in Dinwiddie County. She was the youngest of five children. Following the death of her parents shortly after her birth, Geneva was raised by her oldest sister, Channie and her husband, Fed Henderson; two nephews, Hawthorne (Bertha), and Leander (Gloria), became her brothers in spirit and love. The children who chose her are Carolyn Hires and Ricky McCray.
Geneva was a loving wife and mother. She worked several years at Blandford Grocery on East Bank Street and Eastside Grocery on Wythe Street before she found her true calling in providing affordable, loving daycare services in her home.
Over the years, she touched the lives of numerous children and their families with love, concern, and genuine care for their well-being. These families still remembered her even after she retired from this work and would often stop by with the children as they grew older so she could see how well they are doing.
She married, Milton T. "Flip" Nunnally Sr. on October 15, 1944. She was the mother of five children: Patricia, Milton of Greensboro, N.C., Rhonda, William (Billie Jean) of Boise, Idaho, and John (Annette) of Killeen, Texas.
In addition, she leaves behind: 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She has one remaining sister-in-law, Henrietta Mason of Dinwiddie.
Geneva was preceded in death by: her parents, her siblings and their spouses; as well as her in-laws and their spouses. In addition, her grandson, Manuel A. "Tony" Matos.
Sharing in wonderful, loving memories are: devoted friends and neighbors, Brenda D. Cunningham of Greensboro, N.C., Joan Coghil, Edward "Tommy" Johnson and Joyce Degurse of Idaho.
Friends who became family are: Martha and Skye Jeffries, Barbara Seabert, Frankie Robinson, Joanne Stevens and Joe Johnson.
Geneva remained close with her former daughters-in-law, Quinnett Maxfield, and Patricia Hines; and former son-in-law, Louis E. Watson Sr.; also to include the entire the Blandford community, the McKeevers, Cains, Smiths, Johnsons, and Turners families.
So many lives were touched and enriched by her sparkling humor and loving kindness.
