Mrs. Geraldine Ruffin Hill, 86, of Prince George County, Va., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hill Sr., and her parents, Moses Cornelius and Martha Ruffin Sr. Geraldine enjoyed cooking, shopping and gardening. She loved going to church and spending time with her family.
She was always positive and advocate for education. Geraldine sent all seven of her children and one grandchild to Virginia State University and was acknowledged by the Virginia State University President Greenfield at the graduation of her sixth child. She was a phenomenal mother and woman.
Geraldine graduated from Disputanta Training School in 1944 as the class valedictorian. Geraldine was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Jarratt, Va. She attended church regular until her health declined.
She is survived by seven children, Major Henry J. Hill Jr. of Dallas and Donnell Hill Sr. (Barbara) of Windsor, N.Y., Gilda Hill Curry of Prince George, Va., Deborah P. Miller (George) of Fredericksburg, Va., Cheryl J. Hill of Prince George, Va., Henrietta C. Hill, M.Ed., of Prince George, Va., and Attorney Johnette Martha Hill of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, devoted granddaughter, Chanel A. Hill of Prince George, Va., Donnell Hill Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brenton Hill (Rebecca) of Upstate, N.Y., Leandrea Hill of Newburgh, N.Y., Henry J. Hill III, Thomas Hill and Fernado Hill, both of Dallas; one great-grandchild, Tyler Hill of Dallas; one sister, Annie Mae Reed of Stony Creek, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Ruffin of Petersburg, Va., and Louise Hill (James) of Disputanta, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, whom she loved dearly.
A funeral service for Mrs. Geraldine Ruffin Hill will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Providence Baptist Church, 15901 Providence Road, Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Herbert Holly II, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Stony Creek, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 10:30 a.m. at the church.
