Mrs. Gloria F. Talley, 78, of 731 Federal St., Petersburg, Va., was suddenly called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 18, 2014.
Mrs. Talley was educated in the Petersburg Public School System. She retired from Central State Hospital as a laundry supervisor and gained many friends there throughout her tenure.
Mrs. Talley loved cooking for her family, shopping and listening to her oldies but goodies. She also enjoyed sharing her laughter-filled stories of the things her Grandfather Rufus Fitts used to do in her early years.
Mrs. Talley was a longtime faithful member of New First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the W.H. Mattox Memorial Choir.
She took great care of her children and grandchildren, teaching them valuable life skills and how to treat others. She was very sassy, but also a very strong woman that would always share her last with anyone.
Mrs. Talley is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Talley; granddaughter, Shari D. Talley; mother, Minnie Ethel "Bunche" Jefferson and father, Robert Cunningham, as well as her stepfather, Edgar "Bubba" Jefferson; siblings, Maurice, Roy and Robert "Bobbie" Cunningham and JoAnn Pettaway; and her aunt, Mary Friend-Shields.
Mrs. Talley leaves to cherish her heartfelt memories to her devoted children, Cynthia "Dianne" of Chesterfield, Va., Wanda, Rai, Gloria "Touie," Deborah "Kay," Saundra, Deacon Wayne "Stevie" (Renee), all of Petersburg, Va.; 15 loving grandchildren and 19 loving great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Cunningham of Petersburg, Va., and Eddie Dean Cunningham (Rita) of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Jean, Ruth May, and Sandra Cunningham, all of Petersburg, Va.; brother-in-law, Robert "Sonny Boy" Talley (Jean) of Petersburg, Va.; sisters-in-law, Mable Talley of Petersburg, Va., Catherine Talley of Philadelphia and Ruth Wilkerson of Petersburg, Va.; devoted cousins, Thomas Friend Jr. and Ronnie Friend; longtime childhood friend, Irene Smith; devoted friends, to include Curtis Pegram, Roosevelt "Bay" McNeil and Linda Ivey; three children that she treated as her own, Vanessa Taylor, Wanda "Faye" Myers and Tony Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
